Classroom    Management and Teacher Talk 



Focus:  Classroom Management
Observe the teacher and complete the following table :

Beginning and ending the day
Punctuality at the beginning of the lesson
-       Teacher arrives before the pupils.
-       With pupils.
-       All the learners arrive to the school most on time.



Teacher’s response to those who are late. What does she say?

positive reinforcement
Teacher uses ‘ stop light’ green / yellow/ red

Write name on board in a color on the stop light.

-       greets class
-       tells students what books they need to bring to class
-       gives directions waits for class to be at attention
-        then begins lesson
Lining up : location
playground
Teacher instructions for lining up: what does she say? do?
Teacher calls students group by group based on positive behavior being shown best behaved, attentive group lines up first.
Ending the day: what does the teacher say? /do?
Instructs student to clean / gather belongings.
The students who have been best behaved and listening get dismissed to lockers first.
Moving
Moving the children for an activity.
What does she say? do?
Students in grade 5 just move more freely.
Moving the children: how do they respond?
Reminder to be quiet no fighting
Misbehavior
What was the learner doing?
2 students lied to teacher and spent 10 mins eating Cheetos in the bathroom
What did the teacher say? do?
Teacher asked why they were late, in the wrong bathroom and had a lunch bag. Teacher brought V.P who investigated their lies, then recorded their names.
How did the child respond:
Girls lied but then were quiet for rest of day.
How does the teacher stop the children at the end of an activity? What does she say? do?

“ give me 5”
“increases wait time after directions’
